The Myint family extends its sincere gratitude to all those who have expressed their concern and desire to help those individuals affected by Cyclone Nargis. your contributions directly support the efforts of the Sitagu Asia Royal Emergency clinic for Cyclone Victims in delivering emergency aid to the people of Myanmar (Burma).

Together, we are making significant difference in the ongoing relief effort. Thank you for your generosity and support. You may visit the following web site to view photos of the relief efforts: http://flickr.com/photos/26526291@N03/show/

Filling Up Fast!

The fund raising buffet is filling up fast, though the comments are not showing here. Many people have told the Myint family they will be attending. The event is already slated to be about 2/3 full! This means if you want to go we need your RSVP, because if there is enough interest there could be an additional date set up, likely Monday the 2nd.

If you want to contribute but cannot attend the buffet there are jars at the restaurant or you can mail a check payable to Kyaw Myint (NOT to the Restaurant!) at the restaurant address.

Checks can be accepted for the buffet fundraiser as well, just no credit cards.

The final headcount will be done on May 24, 2008 – so please RSVP (in person or on this blog) by Friday, May 23 if you want to attend. If your name doesn’t make it onto the list we cannot guarantee you admission to the event!

The Myint family extends its thanks to everyone who has expressed their concern and their desire to help those affected by Cyclone Nargis, and hopes that together we can all make a significant contribution to the relief effort.

Fund Raiser Date Set – 6/1/08

On Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 5pm the Mandalay Restaurante and Café will open its doors for a fund raising buffet. Food and soft drinks are included. Because we must keep the fund raising efforts entirely separate from restaurant operations we will only accept cash donations for admission to the fund raiser.

Cost: $50 CASH ONLY donation per person.

There will be a Cash Bar if you want beer, wine or other alcoholic beverages with your meal.

We would appreciate an RSVP to this blog with the number of people in your party so we can plan accordingly.

If you have questions about this fund raiser please email them to mandalaycyclonerelief rather than posting them to the blog.

Working on a relief effort

The Mandalay Cafe and Restaurant in Silver Spring, MD, is a family owned Burmese restaurant with family in and strong ties to Myanmar (Burma). We are very concerned about our family there, and of course about everyone affected by Cyclone Nargis.

We are looking into what we can realistically do in terms of relief for Myanmar, and once we know what that will be we will contact those who have expressed interest in contributing to this effort. This Blog is a way to give people a way to express their interest in helping out. If you are interested, we ask you to post a comment on this blog and give us a way to contact you.

Also, as time goes by and we have better ideas as to what we will do we will update this Blog. We sincerely hope that the UN and the US will be permitted to assist, and we are keeping a close eye on the news.

We do promise that we will not use the information we gather here for anything EXCEPT cyclone relief. We are very much against spam and other forms of internet abuse.

ALL Comments initially went  to “moderation” rather than appearing automatically.  Now that we are sure your email address won’t be made public by your comment to our Blog we are re-setting that function.

We thank you for visiting and hope you will join us in doing what we can to help those in need.
